FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- Do I need a referral from a doctor?
- In Wisconsin you do NOT need a written referral from a physician to see a physical therapist. Most insurance companies do not require a
referral in order to cover physical therapy but a few do. You should refer to your individual insurance plan to verify coverage. Our office staff
is happy to assist you if you have questions.

coverage.
- What does a physical therapist do?
- Your physical therapist will do a thorough examination and evaluation of your condition. Based on these findings an individualized treatment plan
will be established. We encourage our patients to be active participants in their rehabilitation. Each physical therapy session may include manual
techniques (stretching, massage, joint mobilizations, to name a few), exercise instruction body mechanics and assessment of your work, home and
recreational activities.
- How do I arrange an appointment?
- Call the Physical Therapy Associates office of your choice and schedule an appointment with the receptionist. We have early morning and evening
hours which vary by clinic. We will do our best to find a convenient time for you to schedule appointments.
- Will it hurt?
- Remember that the majority of our patients are seen with pain as a major factor in our evaluation. In most cases, NO. If you have concerns about
your pain level, or if at any time you have questions or concerns regarding your rehab you should
discuss them with your therapist.
- How long does an appointment last?
- Most patient appointments last for 30-60 minutes from start to finish. Your first appointment may take a little longer, up to 90 minutes.
- How long will I have to come?
- In most cases therapeautic goals are reached in 9-12 visits. There are many variables that can affect the length of treatment. We strongly
encourage our patients to be active participants in their rehabilitation.
- What should I bring with me?
- Please bring your prescription and any notes or reports from your doctor that describe your condition. X-rays, test results, braces, are also helpful
during the process of diagnosis. We do have shorts and gowns available to allow us to expose involved body parts. Feel free to bring your own change
of clothing if you feel more comfortable.
